Code Enforcement

Promoting Health, Safety, and an Attractive Environment

Panola County Code Enforcement works diligently to uphold the quality of life for all residents by ensuring compliance with the County’s adopted ordinances. Our primary purpose is to help promote an attractive environment and control litter and uncleanliness on public and private properties that may pose a menace to the public health, safety, and general welfare of the community.

The Code Enforcement Division is authorized to address violations pertaining to exterior property conditions and public nuisances. Matters concerning landlord-tenant disputes, as well as interior conditions of rental units (e.g., mold, mildew, and internal maintenance), fall outside of the adopted County ordinances enforced by this office and must be addressed through civil channels.

Jason Ales, Code Officer

Officer Jason Ales is dedicated to administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program throughout Panola County. His role involves investigating complaints, conducting site inspections, and working with property owners to resolve violations and achieve compliance with adopted Panola County Ordinances.

The Code Enforcement Division is authorized to issue formal citations for violations, which may result in monetary fines and required court appearances. Furthermore, the County maintains the authority to pursue the abatement of violations; should the County be required to clear a property of nuisances, the costs incurred may be assessed as aΒ tax lien against the property to ensure the health and safety of the community.
